The PIT maneuver can be a very effective tool for law enforcement when it comes to chasing down bad guys. Unfortunately, it’s also something you can bring upon yourself if you’re not careful when changing lanes.
According to the video’s description, the crash took place back in April on a highway in Dallas, Texas. It also mentions that the driver of the pickup failed to check their blind spot, but that may well be speculation, since they could have just as easily tried to bully their way onto the second lane.
Either way, the result was the same, ending with a relatively brutal collision with the concrete barrier, which completely eradicated the truck’s left flank, rendering it pretty much un-driveable.

To be fair, the more we watch the clip, the more we can understand how this could have simply been a blind spot mishap. The cammer approaches the Ram from behind as the latter begins to merge, and we’re sure that past a certain point, the driver of the pickup might not have been able to see at that particular angle.
However, a simple head turn to make sure nobody’s in their way would have been sufficient in order to avoid this incident. So blind spot or not, we still have to call this for what it is – human error.
And to think that a simple blind spot detection system could have prevented this easily avoidable incident to begin with. Or, you know, just turn your head, it always works.
