If you always wondered which car is the world’s coolest rental car, a classic Shelby Mustang GT350H would probably top your list.
Back in 1966, Shelby American produced 1,000 Mustang GT350s for Hertz, which used them as rentals targeted to its more enthusiastic customers. This unique version was named the Shelby Mustang GT350H and has since become a very treasured item within the classic car community.

This is an original GT350H that has been restored to 1966 B-Production racing specification from the ground up. The classic race car, offered in an auction over at Bring A Trailer, had its chassis dipped and repainted in Raven Black with gold Le Mans-style stripes and graphics.
Other features include functional fiberglass side scoops, hood pins, quarter windows made out of Plexiglass and a front valance and rear window from a GT350R. The wheels are 15-inch, gold-centered American Racing Torq Thrust D items.
Inside there’s a full cage, a Cobra racing seat for the driver, a quick-release Moto-Lita steering wheel bolted to a quick-ratio steering system and Stewart Warner instrumentation. There’s also a 10k-rpm tachometer on the dash.
Under the bonnet lives a 4.7-liter V8 (289ci) that’s paired to a close-ration four-speed manual transmission. A Detroit Locker is mounted on the rear 3.89:1 Ford 9-inch axle. A 2009 dyno test showed that the engine produces 387hp and 353lb-ft (478Nm) of torque.
The seller has participated in many events with this ‘Stang, including the 2007 and 2008 Monterey Historics and the 2007 and 2008 Sonoma Wine Country Classics. The car has also been accepted to Monterey this year, with the new owner able to race it there if approved.
