If your work usually entails driving on arduous terrains, then one of the trucks that should be on your list is the new Ram 2500 Power Wagon, which builds on the redesigned 2500.
Presented at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, the off-road pickup truck is only available in the crew cab body style, with the 6-foot, 4-inch bed. That’s not the only restriction, as while the rest of the Heavy Duty family comes with three different units, the 2500 Power Wagon is offered exclusively with the 6.4-liter, HEMI V8. Not that it’s a bad thing as it delivers 410 hp (415 PS / 305 kW) and 429 lb-ft (581 Nm) of torque to both axles through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
You also get electronic locking front and rear axles, electronic sway bar, lifted and modified suspension, underbody protection, a front winch rated at 12,000 lbs (5,443 kg) and other upgrades that promise to help once the terrain gets rough. The overall feel from behind the wheel is that the only thing the driver needs to do is point it to where they want to go, and it will follow orders.
Seeing over the hood while climbing a hill was hard at the Badlands Off Road Park in Attica, Indiana, where Cars drove it recently, as the early production model didn’t have the optional front camera. Also, its generous size became more obvious on narrow paths, which you may want to avoid if you don’t want to scratch the paint.
