BMW‘s updated G30 5-Series model is currently undergoing tests, with prototypes spotted wearing camouflage to hide restyled front and rear end designs.
Fortunately for us, it was pretty easy to decipher what the Bavarian automaker has in store for the 5er as far as the front fascia is concerned. We’re dealing with a new bumper, new headlights and a larger grille, t wehough thankfully not too large.
These updates have now been brought to life, so to speak, digitally, as these renderings from Kolesa show us what a 5-Series sedan model would look like with less bulkier headlights, new grille and a new taillight design, although the latter remains questionable.
The new headlights remind us a little bit of the 3-Series’ lighting units and are no longer horizontally teardrop-shaped, while the grille should be somewhere between the current one and the one on the updated 7-Series in terms of size.
At the rear, the render features a more pronounced bottom section for each taillight, something that may or may not happen – recently spotted prototypes might be wearing old taillights in an attempt to throw us off their scent. However, if that’s not the case, then the shape of the taillights could remain unchanged, leaving room for new graphics and nothing else.

Aside from a rumored 545e electrified variant, the 2020 5-Series should keep its current range of petrol and diesel options, possibly featuring small revisions for improved fuel efficiency.
As for on-board tech, we should see BMW’s latest software powering a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, as well as a 10.25-inch infotainment display, the same one from the new 8-Series.
We should find out more about the facelifted 5er closer to its reveal date, which could be either in late 2019 or sometime next year.
