Alfa Romeo had to endure three races without scoring a single point in Formula 1 before returning to form in France and Austria. Last weekend, the Swiss-based outfit had two cars in the points for the first time all year as Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi finished P9 and P10 respectively.
Currently, Alfa Romeo sits 30 points behind McLaren for sixth in the Constructors championship, and they’re definitely not happy with that position.
“I think we did a good step forward over the last two or three races,” said team principal Frederic Vasseur in an interview with Autosport. “We have to improve the pace a little bit to be able to fight with the McLarens, which will be the next target.”
“If you look at the last few races they were ahead, but we have good updates in the pipeline. We have a package for Silverstone and some other updates for Germany and Hungary, but we have to be realistic, everybody is pushing like hell, and they will also bring something.”

Vasseur also talked about Giovinazzi’s progress with the team, saying he’s looked very strong during qualifying in the last few races and that scoring points is very important for his confidence level.
“At least he won’t have any more the question about when he will get the first points. The pace was there and he did a very strong race, and it was an important step in his own season,” added the Alfa Romeo exec.
Next up on the calendar is the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, taking place this upcoming weekend, on July 14.
