BMW Motorrad has just unveiled its latest two-wheeled machine: the R nineT /5.

The German manufacturer has been building its superb R nineT for a couple of years now, and while the /5 may have a rather curious name, it does look the part and has the specifications to match.

The new bike gets its name from the /5 models which BMW manufactured at its Berlin Spandau plant 50 years ago. These models proved extremely popular, and the company fittingly thought the 50th birthday of the Berlin production site warranted a limited-edition R nineT.

Like the regular model, the R nineT /5 is powered by an 1,170 cc boxer engine with 110 HP. It comes standard with features including twin disc brakes, ABS, heated grips and a 2-in-1 exhaust system, much like the standard bike. What distinguishes it are the Lupine Blue paint scheme, pinstriped fuel tank and chrome on the mirrors, exhaust manifold, and exhaust, along with a distinctive seat with /5 cross-embossing on the cover, grab straps, and white piping.

The BMW R nineT, particularly this new /5 model, is perhaps the perfect bike for motorcycle enthusiasts who love the classic looks of bikes from the 1960s but want to enjoy modern features and reliability.

BMW hasn’t said if it will cap production of the R nineT /5 nor how much it will go for. The standard model costs $15,495 in the United States, though, so customers can expect to pay a slight premium.
