There have been rumors about BMW developing a range-topping X8 SUV for well over a year now, and they have been revitalized after a report that BMW’s M division is planning a performance-focused version of the (as yet hypothetical) model.
Autocar claims that an X8 M has been given the go-ahead as a rival to the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, Porsche Cayenne Turbo and upcoming Audi RS Q8.
If true, the most luxurious and expensive SUV in BMW’s range would be powered by the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine found in other M models, like the M5 and M8, pumping out in excess of 600 HP.

It is claimed that the X8 will use the same underpinnings as the X7 and have a coupe-like design similar to the X6, albeit on a larger scale. It is possible that seating will be limited to four passengers in order to maximize comfort and luxury in the second row with individual seats.
If it gets made, the X8 will most likely be the brand’s most expensive vehicle ever. Which, in turn, means customers will inevitably receive a host of luxuries not found in other BMW products, some of which could e handed down from the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
Think cutting-edge safety and semi-autonomous driving technologies as well as exceptionally comfortable seats with massage functions and more. The finest materials are also a sure thing, including plush leather, soft floormats, and perhaps some wooden and aluminum accents and/or carbon fiber trimmings.
Even if this super SUV is indeed in the works, though, we don’t expect to see it for at least a couple of years at the earliest.
