Holden To Restore And Improve 2004 Monaro VZ CV8, Give It Away

GM Australia is cooking something really nice for Holden Monaro enthusiasts.

The company has announced a brand-new after sales promotion called Project Monaro, which will pay tribute to one of Holden’s modern classics, the V2 Monaro built between 2001 and 2006.

The goal of the unique restoration is to bring a 2004 Holden Monaro VZ CV8 back to its former glory — and then some. You see, Holden won’t stop at restoring the car to stock form. While the project will be as close to a brand new CV8 as possible, it will also be “re-imagined, refined and improved from the ground up” using Holden Genuine, ACDelco and Chevrolet Performance Parts.

Holden describes Project Monaro as a “money-can’t-buy” car and there’s a reason for that. The best part is that when the car is complete, one of the company’s lucky customers will win it. To make Project Monaro a reality, Holden is teaming up with motorsport icon Craig Lowndes, as well as talent from its subsidiaries and dealer network in Australia and New Zealand.

A team based in Port Melbourne, which includes some of the original V2 Monaro designers, will bring the car up to date both inside and out. Holden wants to improve “the big three” performance characteristics of the Monaro – the go, stop and turn, and bring it to modern day performance standards.

“I am truly proud to continue my long-term association with the Holden brand. Like many Australians, I grew up with the Monaro. It’s such a thrill to be working on such a special project with the team at Holden,” said Lowndes.

The build of Project Monaro will be documented by Lowndes in a series of behind-the-scenes mini-documentaries. The videos will cover everything from concept development to the final shakedown of Project Monaro at Holden’s Lang Lang Proving Ground with Lowndes himself behind the wheel.

The competition to win Project Monaro is open to both trade and retail service customers of Holden dealers in Australia and New Zealand. All they have to do is spend at least AU$100 on Holden Genuine and ACDelco parts.
