Police in Sacramento, California have arrested seven people and issued 27 citations as a number of local drivers blocked off roads to perform donuts.

KCRA 3 reports that the first incident took place at around 3:50 p.m. in the area of National Drive and North Market Boulevard and involved approximately 50 cars. The Sacramento Police Department and California Highway Patrol blocked the on-ramps for Interstate 5 and were able to disperse the crowd.

Seven people were arrested and of them, two were charged with driving under the influence.

The second incident occurred on northbound I-5 lanes and is featured in the video below. A number of cars were filmed doing donuts in the center of the highway while dozens of other motorists got out of their cars to watch. Traffic can be seen banked up well into the distance as cars come exceptionally close to sliding into bystanders. At least one of the vehicles filmed doing donuts appears to be a Mercedes-Benz.

Local media reports that traffic was blocked off by participants for approximately 15 minutes before they finally dispersed. No arrests were made in relation to this particular incident but a total of nine cars were impounded in response to it and to the sideshow which occurred earlier in the day.

“The really scary part is a lot of the people that are involved in this are minors or underage, who don’t have experience behind the wheel and are already doing something that’s extremely dangerous,” California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Harris said.
