You can bet that this 2003 Mercedes S55 AMG would be entertaining to drive even today. Sure, it may not be as quick or as technologically sound as some of today’s luxury super saloons, but it would still get the job done.
This particular one is a low-mileage example with just 6,800 miles (10,943 km) on its 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine, and is currently getting auctioned off through Bring a Trailer. Both its looks and its performance were enhanced by a Kleemann package.
Forever young
The styling of the W220 S-Class is considered by some to be timeless. It does look elegant, and this one also boasts a Designo Graphite exterior, AMG styling package, 19-inch Kleemann wheels, plus a scratch on the side of the car, unfortunately. The seller also notes that the soft-close function on the driver side door doesn’t work.
Meanwhile, the interior features two-tone Graphite Exclusive Nappa leather with brown wood accents on the dashboard, center console and door panels, while optional equipment includes a Motorola phone handset, Distronic, Electronic Rear Seatback, Active Ventilated Seats, Keyless Go and the Designo Graphite Edition package. The car has $21,060 worth of options, and the total retail price was $129,980 back when it was first sold.

Last but not least, we should mention performance, because this car is anything but slow. Its previously-mentioned 5.4-liter supercharged V8 unit was modified to work alongside a small supercharger pulley, ECM tune and high-flow catalytic converters, all courtesy of Kleemann. We’re not sure what this means in terms of power output, but when stock, the S55 used to put down 493 HP (500 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque, with the aid of a 5-speed automatic transmission.
Aside from that small scratch on the side, the car appears to be in great shape. But would you want to own one?
