Mercedes is gearing up to unveil the 2020 GLE Coupe on August 28th, but it appears the first image has already surfaced online.
Looking instantly recognizable, the crossover coupe has an evolutionary design which incorporates a number of styling cues from the redesigned GLE.
Compared to its predecessor, the model has a larger and more upright grille which is flanked by slimmer headlights. This particular variant also wears the AMG Line Exterior package which adds more aggressive bumpers, color-keyed fender flares and chrome accents.

Like the outgoing model, the 2020 GLE Coupe has a rakish windscreen which meets a steeply sloping roof. The model also has a more compact greenhouse and different doors than the standard GLE.
The rear end isn’t visible, but previous spy photos have shown the model will have slimmer taillights and a liftgate with an integrated spoiler. We can also expect a dual exhaust system and chrome accents.
Engine options should carryover from the GLE and this means we can expect an assortment of petrol and diesel choices. On the petrol side, there could be a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 hp (190 kW / 258 PS) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque. Customers looking for something more powerful should be able to opt for a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that develops 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.
Diesel fans could get three different options including an entry-level four-cylinder engine with 241 hp (180 kW / 245 PS) and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. On the six-cylinder side, there could be units with outputs of 268 hp (300 kW / 272 PS) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque as well as 325 hp (242 kW / 330 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque.
Of course, there will also be a handful of AMG models. The GLE 53 Coupe is slated to have a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that develops 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 383 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque. Likewise, the GLE 63 Coupe is expected to have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 which produces up to 603 hp (450 PS / 612 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque in S guise.
