The new generation Peugeot 208 has been launched in the United Kingdom and it’s slightly pricier than two of its chief rivals, the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo, which start at £15,995 ($19,459/€17,368) and £15,735 ($19,142/€17,086), respectively.
The French subcompact hatchback has been priced from £16,250 ($19,769/€17,645) in the entry-level Active trim, which gets standard 16-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, electric and heated side mirrors and Active Safety Brake with pedestrian detection.

The Allure starts from £18,850 ($22,932/€20,468), adding 17-inch wheels, glossy black B pillars, full LED taillights, i-Cockpit and leather-effect seats with double stitching. For the GT Line models, you’ll have to pay £20,700 ($25,183/€22,477), as this grade brings LED headlights, black wheel arch extensions, double chrome exhaust tips, Diamond Black roof and ambient lighting.
Powering the different versions of the new-gen 208 are three petrol and one diesel engines. The 1.2-liter PureTech is offered with 75 PS (74 hp / 55 kW), 100 PS (99 hp / 73 kW) and 130 PS (128 hp / 95 kW), and the 1.5-liter BlueHDi with 100 PS (99 hp / 73 kW), coupled to a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission, depending on the power unit.
The 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) e-208 is priced between £25,050 ($30,475/€27,200) and £29,650 ($36,071/€32,195) and gets similar levels of equipment to the ICE-powered variants, with a few exceptions, such as the steel wheels in the Active grade.
With a driving range of up to 211 miles (340 km) in the WLTP cycle, the electric derivative features a 50 kWh battery that supports fast charging, with up to 80 percent achieved in 30 minutes, or 7.5 hours to fully charge it using the 7 kW wall box.
Deliveries of the new 208 and e-208 will start early next year.
