2021 Ford F-150 Getting Huge New Infotainment System To Rival Ram’s 12-Inch Display

Spy photographers have caught the 2021 Ford F-150 on multiple occasions, but they have managed snap interior pictures yet. However, new details are starting to emerge about the redesigned cabin.

According to Bloomberg, Ford has developed a case of screen envy as they’re reportedly plotting to tackle the massive 12-inch infotainment system offered on the Ram 1500. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the publication says the redesigned pickup will be offered a screen that is at least 50% larger than the current SYNC 3 infotainment system which sports an 8-inch display.

The screen will measure at least 12 inches diagonally and reportedly feature a split-screen capability similar to Ram’s. Details are limited, but the paper said the display will be able to show things such as audio controls and navigation information at the same time.

Ford declined to confirm the report, but the infotainment system will reportedly be positioned horizontally rather than vertically like on the Ram 1500 and Ford Explorer. This could allow the screen to be better integrated into the vehicle as the 10.1-inch display on the Explorer looks like someone simply mounted a tablet on the dashboard and called it a day.

The screen could be exclusive to higher end versions of the pickup and it remains unclear if lesser models will also get larger displays as well. However, that wouldn’t be too surprising as screen size and screen number seems to be the latest battleground for automakers.

Ford has already confirmed the redesigned F-150 will be introduced next year and have a lot in common with the current model.  In particular, 90 percent of the manufacturing equipment used to make the current pickup can be reused for the 2021 model.

While a number of components will likely carryover, big changes are expected under the hood. Ford has already confirmed plans for a hybrid variant and they teased an electric prototype earlier this year. Reports have also suggested the 5.0-liter V8 engine will be replaced by a more fuel-efficient 4.8-liter unit.
