McLaren is said to be working on an open-cockpit speedster for its range-topping Ultimate Series to be sold alongside the Senna and Speedtail hyper-GT.
At this stage, not much is known about the British car manufacturer’s upcoming supercar, but we are told it will have a more elegant design than the track-focused Senna.
This rendering from All Car News takes a shot of giving us a glimpse of what the car may look like when it is unveiled later this year or in early 2020.

The design is obviously inspired by the Speedtail. Consequently, the front end consists of thin diagonal headlights free of the controversial ‘eye sockets’ of the 720S. Something akin to the open cockpit of the Ferrari SP2 Monza has then been grafted onto the car and offset with a pair of large air intakes on either side. While we are pretty sure the actual car won’t look like this, the rendering does show how well McLaren’s current design language translates into a speedster.
It is unclear what engine will power McLaren’s new Ultimate Series model, but it most likely won’t be a hybridized system like the one in Speedtail. Instead, the company’s familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 will have to make do (…), perhaps with a similar amount of grunt to the 789 hp offered up by the Senna. Coincidentally, this would also put Woking’s creation within striking distance of Ferrari’s SP1 and SP2 models which deliver 798 hp from their naturally-aspirated V12s.
