Small Dutch automaker Donkervoort has announced the imminent arrival of a special edition model to celebrate the 70th birthday of its founder Joop Donkervoort.
The car, dubbed the D8 GTO-JD70, is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine from Audi Sport. No mention has been made about how powerful the car is but the regular D8 GTO model delivers up to 375 hp from the same powertrain.
Like all other Donkervoorts, the D8 GTO-JD70 will be exceptionally light, tipping the scales at less than 700 kg. Such a scarce figure has been achieved thanks to the company’s use of its own advanced carbon fiber technology that was previously awarded a European Union innovation grant.

Only a couple of darkened images of the car have been released but it doesn’t appear to have undergone any serious styling modifications although the example pictured is finished in a dark shade of green carbon fiber.
Donkervoort says the D8 GTO-JD70 “will be a supercar for people who ache for the days of heightened senses and utter purity of unfiltered driving experiences, allowing drivers to form an unshakeable bond with their machines.” Other Donkervoort D8 GTO models can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than three seconds and we expect no different from the JD70.
Production of the vehicle will be capped to just 70 units and the car will be unveiled in full sometime next year. Prices will start at €163,636 ($181,240) and the first deliveries are scheduled in for 2020 and 2021.
