The Subaru Impreza is only a few years old, but that hasn’t stopped the company from unveiling a facelifted model in Japan.
Billed as “greatly improved,” the JDM-spec Impreza has been equipped with a new front fascia that features a slimmer grille. The model also sports a revised air intake that now spans nearly the entire width of the vehicle.
Interior are relatively minor, but the model appears to have an updated infotainment system and revised switchgear for the audio system. We can also see new gloss black trim that fully surrounds the climate controls. Subaru didn’t say much about the changes, but noted the model will be offered a driver’s seat position and mirror position memory function.

On the safety front, all Impreza models in Japan will come equipped with Eyesight Touring Assist. Subaru says can assist with accelerator, brake and steering operations under a “wide range of vehicle speeds on expressways and exclusive roads.”
In Japan, the model will be offered with two different engines. The entry-level 1.6-liter produces 113 hp (85 kW / 115 PS) and 109 lb-ft (148 Nm) of torque, while the 2.0-liter engine develops 152 hp (113 kW / 154 PS) and 145 lb-ft (196 Nm) of torque.
While the engines carryover, Subaru said “driving quality has been improved.” The company didn’t elaborate, but it’s possible that the Impreza has been equipped with a retuned suspension or a revised steering system.
There’s no word when the updated Impreza will be introduced in other markets, but we’ll likely find out in the coming months.
