Hyundai Drops Full Details, Image Gallery On 2020 Kona Hybrid

Following a preview in June, Hyundai has released full details of the new Kona Hybrid for the European market.

We can now check out the new model in greater detail thanks to a new photo gallery taken during the international media reveal in Amsterdam. Adding to the existing ICE-powered Kona models and the Kona Electric, the Hybrid becomes the third member of the Kona family.

The Kona Hybrid’s main power source is a Kappa 1.6-liter GDI four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle gasoline four that provides a maximum power of 105 PS (103 hp) at 5,700 rpm and 147 Nm (108 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The engine is assisted by a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor delivering 32 kW (43.5 PS / 43 hp) and a maximum torque of 170 Nm (125 lb-ft). A 1.56 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery is also part of the powertrain, which has a combined output of 141 PS (139 hp / 104 kW) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque.

Hyundai says the Kona Hybrid delivers a dynamic driving experience thanks in part to the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that offers a Sport mode and paddle shifters. According to the automaker, the combined fuel consumption (NEDC) is as low as 3.9 l/100 km (60.3 US mpg), with corresponding CO2 emissions of 90 g/km. The figures are for the Kona Hybrid with standard 16-inch wheels.

To favor efficiency, Hyundai offers the Eco-Driving Assist System with integrated Coasting Guide and Predictive Energy Management systems. The performance figures of the Hyundai Kona Hybrid are not spectacular: the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 11.2 seconds and the top speed is 160 km/h (99 mph).

On the tech front, the hybrid crossover offers the Bluelink connected vehicle system with embedded telematics, optional Audio Video Navigation system (AVN) with a 10.25-inch split touchscreen, Cloud-based voice recognition in six languages, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, as well as Hyundai Live Services.

You’ll recognize the Kona Hybrid thanks to discreet styling tweaks such as the unique alloy wheels (available in 16 or 18 inches), new Blue Lagoon paint, and dedicated interior color pack. European customers can already order the Kona Hybrid starting this month.
