While in Europe Renault has given the Trafic a significant makeover for the 2019 model year, Australian car buyers will have to make to do with the pre-facelift version for the time being.
That doesn’t mean the cargo van is without updates Down Under: Renault has just announced the return of the Formula Edition.
For 2019, the sporty-flavored van changes colors and is available in White or Storm Grey highlighted with red F1-style detailing, a Trafic Formula Edition adds a red grille finisher strip, LED DRLs into the bumper and fog lights with bright red surrounds. Other sporty exterior elements include the black-painted 17-inch Cyclade alloys as well as the body colored bumpers, rear corner pillar trim, and sliding-door rail surround.

Inside, the 2019 Trafic Formula Edition adds “Java” dark cloth upholstery, heated driver’s seat, model-specific floor mats, and Renault’s so-called premium dashboard. The latter consists of a dash top storage compartment, chrome instrument panel surround, gloss black side air vent surrounds, chrome-plated gear knob trim, leather covered gear knob, and chrome-plated speaker surrounds.
Additional equipment includes a wide-view reversing mirror installed into the passenger sun visor, LED interior lighting, hands-free entry card and push-button start, as well as a high-security dead-locking system and climate control air conditioning. Since we’re talking about a van, it’s worth noting that the spec sheet also includes a dealer-fitted timber cargo floor and a stainless-steel rear bumper lip.
The 2019 Renault Trafic Formula Edition is available both in short- and long-wheelbase configurations, with a single engine, a 1.6-liter biturbo diesel rated at 138 HP and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque. Perhaps more interestingly, the six-speed manual gearbox is shared with the Megane RS hot hatch.
Prices start from AU$41,990 (approximately $28,420) for the short-wheelbase and AU$43,490 ($29,780) for the LWB model.
