German mobility provider Sono Motors has published a series of images showing the interior of its upcoming Sion electric vehicle.

The exterior design of the Sion has already been previewed in production guise, but this is the first time we get to see what the finished interior of the EV will be like. Whereas the exterior design is quite ordinary, the cabin is much more unique.

Sitting at the center of the dashboard is a large 10-inch digital infotainment system that displays various different vehicle systems as well as consumption data, while behind the steering wheel there’s a small seven-inch display. All rather normal.

What really makes the cabin of the Sion stand out is an area of the dashthat is filled with island moss. The company states this helps to maintain a comfortable indoor climate, filters the air and regulates humidity. The area housing the moss can be enhanced by backlighting.

The Sion integrates solar cells across virtually all flat exterior surfaces and it is claimed that the 35 kWh battery pack found beneath the skin offers a range of 255 km (158 miles) under WLTP testing. Sono Motors says they can generate up to 30 km (18.6 miles) of additional range if parked under the German sun for a day.

Sono intends on selling the Sion for just €16,000 ($17,685) and expects to commence production in the second half of 2020, aiming to eventually build 260,000 vehicles.
