A new S-Class is in the works and this video offers a glimpse of the direction Merc’s designers might take.
Recent spy images of the car have revealed that its exterior will be drastically altered for the 2020 model year. Up front, the new S-Class will receive distinctive headlights and a newly-shaped grille, while the rear will sport taillights similar to the new CLS. If this rendering video is anything to go by, then these changes will make the new luxury sedan stand out from its predecessor.

We happen to think that the current S-Class looks pretty good for a sedan of its size. For example, the large headlights and taillights are in perfect proportion to the overall size of the sedan. By comparison, we think the headlights and taillights of the new S-Class rendered are a little too small for such a big car, but this is a render so it’s not certain that this is exactly how the new car will look.
Exterior aside, Mercedes-Benz is also working hard to overhaul the interior of the new S-Class with recent spy shots revealing an all-new look. Taking pride of place in the cabin will be a Tesla-like touchscreen where all of the vehicle’s infotainment functions, and possibly air conditioning/heating controls, will be located, while drivers will have a new digital instrument cluster at their disposal.
We’re told the all new S-Class will feature hybrid 2.9-liter and 3.0-liter petrol and diesel inline-six engines, with an all-electric range of up to 62 miles (100 km). The new S-Class will still be offered in S 63 guise with the company’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which will also get 48-volt mild-hybrid tech.
