Volvo is expanding its Care by Volvo subscription program shortly after it came under fire from the California New Car Dealers Association and the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
The Swedish car manufacturer launched the service in late 2017. At first, it was exclusive to the XC40 but the S60 was soon added. Now, under the expanded program, it will extend to the XC60, XC90, and V60 Cross Country.
Monthly pricing for the XC40 Momentum starts at $600 and increases to $750 for the T5 R-Design. Meanwhile, customers can get behind the wheel of an S60 Momentum from $700 and either an S60 R-Design, XC60 Momentum, or V60 Cross Country Adventure for $750 per month. The XC90 Momentum is the priciest of all, at $800 per month.

The two-year subscription service bundles together the use of the vehicle, insurance, and maintenance costs into a single monthly payment. After a year, subscribers have the option of swapping into a different Volvo model.
Volvo has also changed how Care by Volvo operates. Most significantly, it will allow dealerships to offer vehicles on their lots to subscription customers, while previously, subscription customers would have to order brand new cars. Additionally, the time required for dealers to qualify, approve, and get subscription customers has been reduced.
“We have built in all the components that would enable the dealer… to spot-deliver a vehicle as a Care by Volvo vehicle,” head of Care by Volvo in the United States, Peter Wexler told Auto News. “We want to offer our retailers what we call the third option.”
