Years ago, if you wanted a luxurious Ford truck or SUV, you went for the King Ranch variant. However, as consumers embraced even more luxurious trims, the King Ranch name lost some of its luster.
Ford is looking to fix that by introducing the 2020 Expedition King Ranch Edition. Like its predecessor, the model features a unique design which embraces the “legacy of hard work that defines the American ranching lifestyle.”
On the outside, the SUV is distinguished by Stone Gray accents on the bumpers, mirror caps and power-deployable running boards. The model also has 22-inch aluminum wheels and oodles of King Ranch badging.

Of course, the King Ranch is all about the interior and its unique leather upholstery. In the case of the Expedition, the model is equipped with premium Del Rio leather which features Kingsville contrast stitching. The seats also have perforated inserts and King Ranch logos on backrests.
Elsewhere, there’s Ziricote wood trim and King Ranch branded door sill plates. Other highlights include power-folding second-row captain’s chairs and the Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assistance systems. There’s also continuously controlled damping, an auto-dimming driver’s side mirror and a 360° camera system.
Besides introducing the new King Ranch, Ford revealed a handful of updates for the range-topping Expedition Platinum. It features restyled 22-inch wheels and “new premium finishes.” Inside, the model has extended leather that now covers the instrument panel hood and console rails.
Like the rest of the Expedition lineup, the models are powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 470 lb-ft (636 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional four-wheel drive system.
Unsurprisingly, Ford has big expectations for the King Ranch as higher-end versions of the Expedition have been a hit with consumers. One out of every five Expeditions sold is a range-topping Platinum variant, while nearly 60% are either a Limited or Platinum version.
