Courtesy of a leaked image that appeared online in June, we knew that Lego would immortalize the new-gen 2020 Land Rover Defender. What we didn’t know, though, was how good the finished product would be.
Created to celebrate the world premiere of the 2020 Defender at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where it sits under the spotlight until September 22, the Lego Technic set will launch in markets worldwide, including Australia, on October 1.

“With every Lego element, children can build anything they can imagine. I’m very excited about this new model – a truly impressive job done by our Lego Group designers”, said the Danish company’s Marketing Director, Niels Henrik Horsted. “Together with Land Rover, we’ve blended elements, design and innovative engineering into a set that shows the boundless creativity of Lego play, and that with Lego Technic you can build for real.”
The 2020 Land Rover Defender Lego Technic set includes 2,573 pieces which, when put together the right way, mimic the design and functionality of the life-sized SUV. A host of realistic elements, including a fully independent suspension, four-wheel drive with three differentials, a sophisticated gearbox and working winch will make you spend hours pushing it on your desk.
Apart from providing the first official look at the impressive Lego Technic set, Land Rover has also announced a range of outdoor performance clothing made in partnership with Musto. The ‘Above and Beyond’ collection for men and women has, according to the British automaker, been “inspired by the durability and capability of New Defender” and also includes technical equipment, like an activity belt with a 6,000 kg (13,228 lbs) tensile strength, tough flasks and bottles and a pen that’s basically unbreakable.
