The Aston Martin Rapide is getting rather long in the tooth having been around since early 2010. Designer ‘The Sketch Monkey’ on YouTube has a solution; a new Aston Martin sedan based around the Vantage.
Aston Martin’s current Rapide is built on the DB9 and, therefore, looks much like it as well as the Virage, albeit with four doors and an elongated roofline. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say the Rapide’s looks are at odds with the company’s modern recent vehicles like the Vantage, DB11, and forthcoming DBX. It needs an update even though it won’t survive through to a second-generation.

In designing a Vantage-inspired sedan, The Sketch Monkey retained most of the styling elements of the two-door but stretch out the car into a four-door. One of the first things on the agenda was to shorten the front doors and push the B-pillar forward to provide enough space for two rear doors. The front doors are fairly traditional in shape while the rear doors have a sharp cut-line that runs around the edge of the rear wheels.
Another significant alteration made was the fitment of sharp windows for rear-seat passengers that also help to increase the rearward visibility of the driver. The rear fascia is largely identical to the coupe with the only obvious change made being the fitment of a slightly smaller ducktail spoiler to better suit the shape of a sedan. It all looks rather wonderful.
