With some accidents, there’s very little you can do in terms of anticipating them, although in this particular case, thankfully, the driver of the dashcam vehicle had time to react in order to avoid getting hit.
The incident took place last week in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and as you can tell from the footage, the cammer was doing 114 km/h (71 mph) when an out-of-control dump truck broke through the barriers and began its assault on the opposite lane.
It’s hard to say what caused the dump truck to lose control and flip over in the first place, but it was definitely its momentum and weight that helped it go through those metal barriers like a hot knife through butter.
The description of the video only states that once it reached the opposite lane, the truck narrowly missed hitting any other vehicles. Still, at least a couple of drivers had to actively steer their cars to the right in order to avoid being impacted – like the cammer and the black crossover.

Now, even though we don’t know anything about the condition of the truck driver (hopefully he wasn’t seriously injured), we should point out that these types of incidents can often have disastrous consequences.
Last summer, a dump truck smashed through stationary traffic in Tomsk, Russia, leaving 13 people injured. Another similar accident took place in Minnesota only a few months later. Then there are cases where luck plays a major role, like when a utility pole saves you from a sliding truck.
