The Devel Sixteen is one of the more controversial performance cars to ‘launch’ in recent years primarily due to the fact that it may never actually reach the production line.
The Middle Eastern hypercar was first unveiled to the world in 2013. Then, four years passed and very little was heard about the car but in late 2017, the revised, ‘production-ready’ version was announced. Fast forward almost two years later and there is still no sign that the company has actually started to build customer cars.

A couple of days ago, Devel dropped a brief video of the Sixteen ‘testing’ on an arrow-straight stretch of road in the Middle East. The video shows the Sixteen driving at maybe 40 mph (65 km/h) and that’s about it.
Devel claims that the waiting list for the Sixteen is two years long with prices starting at $1.6 million for the entry-level model and increasing to $2.2 million for the range-topping model.
It is claimed that this variant features a 12.3-liter twin-turbocharged V16 engine delivering no less than 500 hp and 3757 lb-ft (5094 Nm) of torque, more than three times the power offered up by the Bugatti Chiron. Building an internal combustion engine with that much oomp is certainly possible but making it work on the road is another story entirely. The Sixteen also appears to lack the cooling needed for such a powertrain. We’re willing to bet the engine powering this prototype is only a V8.
