This rendering from the guys over at BMW Blog shows that with one relatively simple styling change, the BMW Concept 4 could win over those who critical of its design.
From most angles, the Concept 4 is a very attractive and sleek two-door sports coupe that makes us very excited to see what the future holds for the next M3 and M4. The back is sharp yet flowing and the body lines running along the sides are achingly beautiful. Then you come to the grille.

Call it the coffin grille or beaver teeth, it is, at the very least, controversial. This rendering shows that if BMW had simply borrowed the gloss black kidney grilles from the BMW 8-Series, the Concept 4 could look, in the eyes of this author, much, much nicer. Not only does the black work better than the silver trim of the concept’s grille but the 8-Series grille is a much more appropriate size for a vehicle like this. Heck, the kidney grille of the BMW X7 even appears smaller than the Concept 4’s grille.
There remains some debate online about whether or not the Concept 4’s grille will make it to the production line but prototypes spied testing in recent months have been sporting similarly-massive grilles but with horizontal slats.
Is there a chance BMW could take a leaf out of Chevrolet’s playbook and actually alter the look of the grille before the car is launched, much like Chevy did with the most recent Camaro SS? It’s not impossible but we aren’t’ holding our breaths.
