Ford has used the State Fair of Texas to reveal the 2020 F-Series Super Duty has a handful of class-leading capabilities.

Described as an “icon of durability and capability,” the 2020 Super Duty has six best-in-class figures for heavy-duty full-size pickups over 8,500 pounds (3855 kg).

These include a maximum available diesel gooseneck towing rating of up to 37,000 pounds (16,783 kg) and a diesel fifth-wheel towing capability of 32,500 pounds (14,742 kg). If that wasn’t enough towing wins, the Super Duty also boasts the best conventional towing rating of 24,200 pounds (10,977 kg) with a diesel engine.

Other best-in-class figures include the most powerful diesel engine in the segment as the available 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 produces 475 hp (354 kW / 482 PS) and 1,050 lb-ft (1,422 Nm) of torque. On the petrol side, the new 7.3-liter V8 delivers a class-leading 430 hp (321 kW / 436 PS) and 475 lb-ft (643 Nm) of torque.

While the standard 6.2-liter V8 engine doesn’t win any power rating at 385 hp (287 kW / 390 PS) and 430 lb-ft (582 Nm) of torque, it does have a best-in-class maximum payload capacity of 7,850 pounds (3,561 kg).

While those are just a handful of specs, Ford says the maximum towing capacity has increased across the board for the 2020. This means the F-250, F-350 and F-450 can all tow more than their predecessors.

Speaking of towing, the 2020 Super Duty will be offered with a new Pro Trailer Backup Assist system which “makes negotiating even the largest trailers into the tightest of spaces as easy as turning a dial.” After setting up the system, drivers use a knob – instead of the steering wheel – to maneuver a trailer into place.

The truck also offers Trailer Reverse Guidance which shows the trailer angle and direction as well as steering suggestions. It and the Pro Trailer Backup Assist system work with all types of trailers including conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck designs.

The 2020 F-Series Super Duty will arrive at dealerships later this year and the trucks will be built Louisville, Kentucky as well as Avon Lake, Ohio.
