Ford is confident its new electrified vehicle lineup will prove successful, surpassing conventional, ICE-powered models in Europe by the end of 2022.
Heralding the Blue Oval’s electrified revolution are the Puma and Mondeo hybrids and Kuga and Explorer plug-in hybrids. Visitors to the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show will be able to take a closer look at them until September 22, as they’re on display at Ford’s stand, alongside the new Tourneo Custom PHEV.
“There is no ‘one-size-fits-it-all’ solution when it comes to electrification – every customer’s circumstances and travel needs are different”, said Ford of Europe’s Executive Director, Joerg Beyer. “Our strategy is to pair the right electrified powertrain option to the right vehicle, helping our customers make their electrified vehicle experience easy and enjoyable.”

Unveiled a few months ago, the new generation Kuga is the firm’s first vehicle to offer mild-hybrid, self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The latter combines a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 14.4 kWh battery, for a total output of 225 PS (222 HP / 165 kW).
The other PHEV sitting under the spotlight in Frankfurt is the Explorer. It packs a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 and an electric motor that work in conjunction to deliver 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) and 840 Nm (620 lb-ft) of torque and its 13.1 kWh battery provides enough juice for an all-electric range of 40 km (25 miles).
Available with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost mild-hybrid in two versions, with 125 PS (123 hp / 92 kW) and 155 PS (153 hp / 114 kW), respectively, the Puma Hybrid is the third member of Ford’s electrified car family. Finally, the Mondeo Wagon Hybrid gets a 2.0-liter, Atkinson cycle petrol engine, an electric motor and a 1.4 kWh battery, and has a combined output of 187 PS (184 hp / 137 kW).
