Johan de Nysschen left his position at GM as Cadillac’s president last year, but now he’s found a new home at Volkswagen.
The former Cadillac and Infiniti boss will become the German automaker’s Chief Operating Officer for the North American region and will report to Scott Keogh, who heads Volkswagen Group of America.
Volkswagen stated that de Nysschen will start on October 1st and help oversee the company’s operations in North America, adding that his decades of experience will help the company execute their brand strategy while maintaining operational excellence. The company went on to say the newly created role of COO was developed to “streamline the executive reporting structure and let the brand better coordinate and align operations in the region.”

While he is best known for his jobs at Cadillac and Infiniti, de Nysschen isn’t a stranger to Volkswagen. Quite the opposite, actually, as he spent 20 years with them and helped make Audi successful in America, Japan and South Africa.
de Nysschen alluded to this in his statement:”I’m looking forward to rejoining a group and leader I know well and admire. This is a great opportunity to play an important role at a company of this scale, at a fascinating time.”
His sentiments were echoed by Keogh, who said “Johan will help make us faster, better and smarter. He’ll speed our decision-making and dive deep into our day-to-day business so we can continue to make this brand matter again.”
de Nysschen’s tenure at Cadillac was a bit rocky, but we’re starting to see the fruits of his labor. Besides the introduction of the CT4 and CT5, the brand has launched two important crossovers in the form of the XT4 and XT6.
