Skoda has further enriched its tech offering by presenting the new Laura digital assistant. It will launch in the Kamiq and Scala at first, and will eventually make its way into other vehicles.
Available in cars fitted with the top-of-the-line Amudsen infotainment system, it can be activated using a simple voice command: “Okay, Laura!”. Subsequently, drivers can ask for a wide number of things, such as finding a nearby restaurant, ATM machine and gas station, or entering the desired destination into the on-board navigation system, find a song or dictate a text message.

Aside from English, Laura understands French, German, Italian, Spanish and Czech. It also responds to difficult dialects and is capable of combining on-board and online data to respond quickly. Users won’t have to wait for the digital assistant to finish the answer, as they can interrupt the dialogue at any time, thus speeding up response times. Whenever Laura speaks, the audio system is lowered rather than muted, for a more natural experience.
This is only the beginning for the digital assistant, as it will continue to be improved and, in the future, it will be able to control certain car functions and respond more flexibly to complete sentences. Eventually, Laura might be upgraded to cover areas outside the vehicle too, like mobile and web apps and online configurators. For the time being, you can catch a glimpse of what in can do in the demo video released by Skoda.
