Boom barriers or boom gates are a common sight pretty much all over the world but that doesn’t necessarily mean all drivers understand how they work.

Take this driver of a Chevrolet Kalos sedan who was trying to exit an underground parking in Ukraine’s (de facto Russia’s) city of Simferopol, Crimea. In the footage taken by one of the garage’s security cameras we see the driver inserting the ticket and the boom gate opening up moments later, clearing the way for the budget Chevy to exit the parking garage.

That’s exactly what happened but an unforeseen obstacle appears just as he or she starts driving up the steep ramp. The car slows down just as it reaches the halfway point, as if it experienced a sudden loss of power or a burnt clutch. What does the driver do at this point? They step on the brake to prevent the car from rolling backwards and apparently try to have another go at climbing the ramp.

At that exact moment, the car starts rolling downhill and hits the boom gate, bending it in the process. As you are about to see, it didn’t take long for the barrier to take its revenge. As the hesitating driver was gearing up for a second try, they didn’t notice that the tip of the barrier entered the car through the open window. So when they pressed the gas pedal, the barrier smashed the car’s rear screen.

Somehow, the footage gets even more hilarious, albeit not for the Chevrolet driver. After pushing the barrier out of the car, they drove off again, only for the stubborn boom gate to enter the vehicle again and get ripped off from its stand. Who said parking garage attendants have a boring job?
