Tiff Needell was instrumental in making Fifth Gear one of the most popular motoring shows on television, but it appears Discovery didn’t get the memo.
In a tweet, the host and former racing driver revealed he’s effectively been booted from the program. As he explained, “Unfortunately … Discovery UK has decided Fifth Gear will be a better show without me.”
Needell went on to say it’s a “sad time for me as I was pivotal in the creation of the program.” He then went on to pitch the Lovecars YouTube channel where he’ll be “doing a lot more” now that he’s no longer part of Fifth Gear.
Unfortunately someone @DiscoveryUK has decided @FifthGearTV will be a better show without me. Sad time for me as I was pivotal in the creation of the programme but if you do like to see me having fun in cars the good news is I'll be doing a lot more on https://t.co/fnNbqE9804

The decision is surprising to say the least as Needell is nearly synonymous with Fifth Gear. He was also part of the cast which helped to relaunch the show last September after an extended hiatus.

Little is known about the revamped series, but a teaser video shows it will feature an assortment of different vehicles including the Audi TT, BMW Z4, Mazda3, Tesla Model 3 and Suzuki Jimny. We can also catch a glimpse of a Porsche 911, Ford GT and Lexus UX. There will also be a handful of classic models including the Audi Urquattro, Jaguar XJ220 and Volkswagen Golf R32.
