Volkswagen is prepping the e-Up! for a significant facelift and will lift the curtain for it at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, next Tuesday.
One of the biggest changes compared to the outgoing iteration is the adoption of a new, larger lithium-ion battery pack. The capacity has increased from 18.7 to 32.3 kWh, which translates to a 260 km (162 miles) range in the real world according to the German car maker.
The expected power consumption is 12.7 kWh/100 km, with the battery also supporting DC charging. Plugging it into a 40 kW socket will charge the 2020 VW e-Up! from empty to 80 percent in just one hour.
Performance is very decent, with the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) taking 11.9 seconds, a 0.5-sec improvement thanks to the slightly updated 61 kW (83 PS / 82 hp) electric motor, and top speed has remained unchanged, at 130 km/h (81 mph).

Drivers will be able to pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin via the mobile app, which can also be used to schedule the charging process, initiate or stop it. Standard equipment includes automatic air conditioning, a docking station that turns the user’s smartphone into an infotainment system and Lane Assist.
The e-Up! Style will offer more features and additional personalization options, with full information to be disclosed shortly after its premiere at the biggest car event of the fall.
At €21,975 (equal to $24,188) in Germany before subsidies, the 2020 e-Up! will be €1,595 ($1,755) cheaper than its predecessor. For a limited period of time, between September 18 and October 31, you’ll be able to lease it at a monthly rate of €159 ($175), excluding extra payments.
The battery is guaranteed for 8 years or 160,000 km (99,419 miles), whichever comes first.
