Following it unveiling in Japan this summer, Subaru has introduced the 2020 Impreza in the United States.
Looking instantly recognizable, the model has been given a minor facelift that includes a new front bumper and a modified grille. The hatchback goes a bit further it receives updated taillights.
Additional changes are limited, but there’s a newly available Ocean Blue Pearl paint job and restyled wheels on Sport and Limited variants. Furthermore, the all models come standard with automatic power door locks that feature a collision detection unlock function.

Other updates include a newly available Rear Seat Reminder system which tells drivers to check the rear seats for children or pets. Models equipped with the Lineartronic continuously variable transmission now come standard with the EyeSight driver assistance system which includes automatic pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning as well as lead vehicle start alert.
Lastly, the Impreza Limited comes equipped with additional safety features including blind spot detection and rear-cross traffic alert. The model also gains SI-Drive which is billed as a “powertrain performance management system that allows the driver to tailor the vehicle’s throttle characteristics by choosing between ‘Intelligent’ and ‘Sport’ modes.” Intelligent mode favors fuel-efficiency, while Sport mode emphasizes performance.
Despite the updates, pricing has only gone up by $100 as the 2020 Impreza starts at $18,695 for the sedan and $19,195 for the hatchback. In base form, the models come equipped with power windows / locks, a tilt / telescoping steering column and keyless entry. Other highlights include a security system with an engine immobilizer and a 6.5-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
All Imprezas are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine that produces 152 hp (113 kW / 154 PS) and 145 lb-ft (196 Nm) of torque. It can be connected to either a five-speed manual or an optional Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. Regardless of which gearbox is selected, all-wheel drive is standard.
