Spy photographers have snapped the 2020 BMW M3 on numerous occasions, but the model has apparently been caught undisguised on the assembly line.
The image was posted on Facebook earlier today and it shows the rear end of a car which is claimed to be the upcoming M3. While nothing is official, the sedan is certainly more aggressive than the M340i.
As you can see, the model features aggressive black side skirts and that is theme is continued on the rear bumper as there’s black trim which surrounds a sporty diffuser. The latter component is body-colored and has cut outs for a four-tailpipe exhaust system.

There isn’t much else to see, but the car has shadowline trim and a larger rear spoiler. We can also get a glimpse of bulging rear fenders and lightweight alloy wheels.
The company hasn’t said much about the upcoming model, but BMW M boss Markus Flasch has confirmed the sedan will use the same 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine as the X3 M and X4 M. He also said the base model will have 473 hp (353 kW / 480 PS), while the Competition variant will be rated at 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS).
At the time, Flasch confirmed the car will be equipped with an all-wheel drive system that is “very similar” to the one used in the M5. As a result, the system will likely be defeatable so owners can enjoy a proper rear-wheel drive burnout.
Rumors have also indicated there will be a so-called ‘Pure’ variant with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. That remains to be seen, but Flasch could have hinted at this when he said “We will also do rear-wheel drive cars, purer ones too and a manual stick shift.”
