BMW M8 Comes With A Set Of Bespoke Tires From Pirelli

An increasing number of performance vehicles on the market are shod in tires developed specifically for them. It is no different with the BMW M8.

In a recent press release, Pirelli revealed that M8 Coupe, M8 Competition Coupe, M8 Cabriolet, and M8 Competition Cabriolet feature a bespoke version of its P Zero tire precisely tuned to the chassis and characteristics of BMW‘s latest performance car. The wheels measure 275/35 at the front, 285/35 at the rear, and sit on 20-inch wheels.

Pirelli says that the bespoke compound used in the tires results in better lap times, improved handling in the wet and dry, better braking performance, reduced risk of straight and lateral hydroplaning, as well as better comfort, lower noise, and improved mileage.

Specific changes made to the tires include a modified tread pattern and different layer constructions used in the carcasses for the front and rear tires, with the front using a symmetrical carcass structure while the rear tires an asymmetrical one.

Of course, the tires are just one of the components that make the new M8 family so exciting. All variants are powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that delivers 617 HP and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque in Competition guise. BMW also equipped the M8 with an all-wheel drive system that sends all this power to the ground so efficiently that, in one recent video, an M8 Competition Coupe needed just 2.88-seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph).
