Rivian is working on a third model as it inches closer towards putting the R1T and R1S into production. These renderings from the Rivian Forums show how it may look.
Rivian founder and chief executive R.J. Scaringe has previously said that the company’s third model will have a shorter wheelbase than the R1T and R1S and be “the Rivian interpretation of a rally car with a lot of ground clearance.”
What the guys over at the Rivian Forums have cooked up is an all-electric off-roader that appears dramatically shorter than its pickup and SUV models, while also featuring a generous amount of ground clearance and a set of bold off-road wheels and tires – so it fits the description perfectly.

The front of the ‘rally car’ has similar headlights to the R1T and R1S and sports a large skid plate to protect the underbelly from rocks and the like. There are also solar panels covering the roof and the rear window as well as a pair of cameras as opposed to traditional wing mirrors.
Before Rivian can start work in earnest on its off-roader, though, it needs to get the R1T and R1S onto the streets. This should happen be the end of 2020, thanks largely in part to the $1.2 billion in investments the electric start-up has generated this year. And it helps that, only last month, Amazon also placed an order for 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian.
