The go-anywhere nature of the older iterations of the Land Rover Defender has led to the creation of countless custom projects, such as East Coast Defender’s (ECD) D110 Project Invictus.
Made in 1991, this rugged SUV has been fitted with a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine that makes 430 horsepower and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. It also packs a Borla exhaust, performance brakes and two-way air suspension, as well as 18-inch wheels made by Kahn shod in 265/65 BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.
The Nara Bronze paint finish is contrasted by the Satin Black accents and complemented by a bunch of visual mods, all meant to make it more potent off the beaten path. Thus, the 28-year old Defender also packs a classic grille, steel bumpers and side steps, auxiliary lights mounted at the front and on the roof, custom roof rack with integrated pop-up tent, winch and portable solar power unit that will keep your mobile devices charged.

Inside, the Project Invictus rocks Puma front seats with heating function, 60/40 split middle row and inward-facing jump seats in the load area. ECD has also fitted it with leather, 15-inch wooden steering wheel, Sony infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and reversing camera, JL sound system with amplifier and subwoofer, and a CB radio that keeps communications in check.
This is definitely one of the most comprehensively tuned Defenders out there, a true off-road warrior home away from home, but as much as we may dig the spec, we would be curious to see what ECD could do to the new Defender; wouldn’t you?
