Ferrari has introduced its new 488 GT3 EVO race car for the 2020 racing season.
This is the third generation of the race car, following its initial release in 2016 and a subsequent version developed in 2018. Ferrari’s new 488 GT3 EVO will be available as an upgrade for existing customers or as a new car for interested parties.
Perhaps the most significant development for the 2020 model is the longer wheelbase, which brings the car to the same length as the 488 GTE. This allows for reduced tire use and means it is easily to facilitate the conversion between the interchangeable GT3 and GTE kits. Elsewhere, Ferrari has developed a new engine management system for the twin-turbo V8 that’s said to improve reliability while guaranteeing smoother and more precise torque delivery.

A lot of work has also been done to hone the 488 GT3 EVO’s aerodynamics package. The car now features a revised front bumper with a smaller frontal section under the headlights that allow Ferrari to fit new canards in order to increase downforce. Additionally, the vents on the rear wing have been re-designed.
Engineers have also reduced the overall weight of the race car, meaning that when ballast is used to attain the minimum weight imposed by Balance of Performance regulations, it can be fitted in a position that will lower the center of gravity.
Ferrari has developed an endurance package for clients, which includes a new front bumper with additional headlights, quick-fill couplings for engine oil and coolant, a carbon fiber clutch, brake calipers from the 488 GTE, and steel wheel nuts. Options include a sensor for the coolant level and refuelling completion with warning lights as well as 4,500 lumen LED main headlights.
