His music may have made him rich and famous, but in our world, Jay Kay is known for having owned some of the hottest vehicles on the planet.
We often reported on the numerous rides that were (or still are) in his possession over the years, and they’re not all Ferraris. You see, Jamiroquai’s lead singer has a soft spot for anything cool on four wheels, regardless of the brand and year of production. That includes the BMW 1M Coupe.

The one you see pictured here was bought new in 2012 by Jay Kay and is one of only 450 right-hand drive examples destined for the UK market. It sports an Alpine White exterior paint on top of a Black Boston interior and has only 5,500 miles (8,850 km) on the clock. It’s been properly maintained, with the service book being stamped five times, including earlier this year, and is about to be auctioned off.
Advertised by SilverstoneAuctions for the NEC Classic Motor Show Sale 2019, on November 9, the winning bid should be at £42,000-£47,000 ($53,851-$60,262/€48,586-€54,370) when the gavel hits the table, or almost as much as a new M2 Competition, which starts at £51,425 ($65,935/€59,489) in Britain.
The 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six engine produces 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque, or 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) more with the overboost function, letting it sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, and up to a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
We don’t know about you, but the 1M Coupe is already a modern classic, and this low-mileage example with celebrity ties does seem like a good deal, especially if it goes for less than a new M2.
