Daimler is recalling certain Mercedes EQC crossovers over a potential differential issue regarding a defective bolt, said the German company in an official statement.
“Daimler AG has determined that on certain EQC vehicles the bolt in the front axle differential transmission might not meet durability specifications. Thus, it cannot be ruled out, that the bolt breaks over lifetime,” stated the automaker.
Apparently, this issue could interrupt torque transmission to the front axle, leading to a vehicle stall. Also, it’s possible that parts of the broken bolt could then become lodged within the differential transmission, which in turn could affect the driver’s ability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
According to Autonews Europe, it was German industry publication kfz betrieb that initially reported details of this recall, saying that 1,700 vehicles were targeted. Daimler meanwhile has declined to comment on the exact number of vehicles affected.

Things of course aren’t all bad as far as the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQC is concerned. Last month it was awarded a 5-Star rating following EuroNCAP crash tests, with Adult and Child occupant protection rated at 96 and 90 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, reviews of the EQC indicate that it is a “comfortable, luxurious crossover that feels equally at home on the motorway and in the city.” It’s also been praised for its plush ride and silet interior.
In terms of performance, the EQC’s power output of 408 PS (402 HP) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque (electric motors plus 80kWh battery) can propel you to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.1 seconds. As for range, it’s been estimated at 445-471 km (277-293 miles) in the NEDC cycle.
