New Renault Megane RS Trophy-R Is Not THAT Expensive In Australia

Depending on where you live, Renault’s Megane RS Trophy-R could cost you almost as much as a new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4. Not in Australia, though, where pricing starts at AU$74,990 (equal to US$51,058/€45,980), making it one of the most affordable Trophy-Rs globally.

According to the company’s local branch, the entire allocation for Australia has been sold out. However, those interested in the top-of-the-line version of the French front-wheel drive hot hatchback can place their names on the waiting list and hope that some of the potential customers will withdraw their orders.

“The strong customer interested in the Megane RS Trophy-R is testament to the place this Renault Sport prepared vehicle has within the Renault family and in the hearts of car enthusiasts across Australia”, said Managing Director Anouk Poelmann. “The Megane RS Trophy-R is the next chapter in Renault’s extensive history in world motorsport and brings to the Australian roads the technologies and expertise Renault Sport has developed on the track.”

Customer deliveries of the Megane RS Trophy-R will kick off early next year, whereas those who have already placed a deposit for the Megane RS Trophy should expect to take delivery before the end of 2019. The lesser model is available in two versions, with a manual or an automatic transmission, and starts at AU$52,990 (US$36,079/€32,490) and AU$55,990 (US$38,121/€34,330), respectively.

Renault Sport will complete the lineup with the introduction of the Megane RS Trophy-R Record Breaking. The oddly-named special edition will boast the same spec as the one that broke the Nurburgring lap record for front-wheel drive production cars earlier this year and its production will be capped at 30 cars, which will be auctioned off in early 2020.
