Nissan fans looking forward to this upcoming Formula E season will get to see a fresh new approach as far as the team’s livery is concerned.
This red, black and white color theme was just unveiled in Yokohama, and is clearly inspired by the Japanese kimono garment – a traditional symbol of longevity and good fortune. A similar livery will also make its way onto the LEAF NISMO RC.
“As we approach the beginning of our second season of Formula E competition, our design team proposed a new look, one that celebrates our Japanese heritage and vibrant technology DNA,” stated Nissan senior VP for global design, Alfonso Albaisa. “We used our iconic Nissan racing red, black and white colors layered diagonally in a kimono pattern, which creates a dynamic and powerful impression.”

In order to come up with this new design, the Japanese company invited its nearly 40 in-house designers to submit concepts.
The Nissan e.dams team took to the track last week for pre-season testing in Valencia, Spain, where they posted top ten times in every session throughout the three days of testing.
For this upcoming season, Nissan has developed an updated powertrain to replace the dual electric motor system from last year.
“The second season is sometimes harder than the first,” said Nissan global motorsports boss Michael Carcamo. “With a major change to a single-motor solution, we had plenty to do in the off-season. We’ll use everything we learned from season five to improve our package, with an even greater emphasis on battery and energy management.”
This new Formula E season will kick off next month in Saudi Arabia. It will have 14 races in total in 12 cities, with the final double-header round taking place in London.
