The Porsche Taycan isn’t just the automaker’s first all-electric car, but also the first true rival to the Tesla Model S.
Powering the range-topping Taycan Turbo S are a pair of electric motors that pump out up to 750 HP and 774 lb-ft (1050 Nm) of torque with Overboost enabled. This results in a staggering 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 2.8 seconds which, despite being a few tenths off the Tesla Model S P100D, is still staggering for a luxury sedan of this size.
What happens after you exceed 62 mph, however? Well, that’s when get things get really interesting.

As this video from Motorsport Magazine shows, the Taycan Turbo S continues to gain speed at an incredible rate, sprinting from 100 km/h (62 mph) to 200 km/h (124 mph) in a touch over 5 seconds and continues to pull hard until 260 km/h (161 mph), when the driver decided to let off the throttle.
There are only a handful of places on earth where you can legally drive a car at such speeds, and doing certainly appears to be an absolute joy.
Would we rather experience the acceleration of the Taycan Turbo S over, for example, a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid with its 680 HP and audible engine and exhaust notes? Sure, the Taycan’s performance would be addictive, but as a recent week-long test of the Tesla Model 3 Performance showed us, straight-line acceleration in an EV can get a little boring with no sound.
