Renault might expand its SUV lineup in the Old Continent by bringing the Arkana from Russia, where it launched earlier this year.

Quoting Groupe Renault’s Executive Vice President of Product Planning and Programs, Kassai Koupai, DownShift reports that the compact crossover coupe might launch in Europe by 2021.

Unlike the model sold in Russia, the Euro-spec Arkana should get a few upgrades, and an RS Line variant expected to boast specific design features should be on the agenda. Elsewhere, the French publication states that the center console will be further raised inside to offer easier access to the infotainment system and a more natural grip of the gear selector.

The engine lineup could be revised as well, and it’s likely that the 114 PS (112 hp / 84 kW), 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol unit that’s paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive offered in Russia’s entry-level grade won’t be carried over. Instead, the 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) 1.3-liter TCe mated to an X-Tronic CVT will probably be offered, while other units could be added to the range as well.

The equipment level of the current Arkana is quite decent, featuring an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bose premium audio, ambient lighting, climate control and a few safety systems, such as the 360-degree cameras and blind spot monitoring. All-wheel drive is optional and costs 100,000 rubles, equal to $1,724/€1,554 at current exchange rates.

Speaking of pricing, the base Arkana starts at 1,014,990 rubles ($15,907/€14,340) in Russia, whereas getting it with the mill co-developed with Daimler requires spending at least 1,229,990 rubles ($19,276/€17,378). If it indeed gets sold in European markets, it will slot between the new subcompact Captur and compact Kadjar.
