An example of one of the most iconic Impreza models of them all, the 22B STi, is currently up for sale from 4 Star Classics over in the UK.

Subaru built the 22B STi to celebrate its third consecutive manufacturer championship in WRC and cooked up what would become the most prized of all Imprezas.

Power comes from a bespoke 2.2-liter four-cylinder boxer with a hand-built block, a massive turbocharger, forged pistons, sodium-filled exhaust valves, new inlet valves and other modifications to develop a claimed 276 HP and 268 lb-ft (363 Nm). However, those figures simply comply with the former ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ between Japanese car manufacturers and, in reality, the car delivers more grunt than that, so much so that it can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 3 seconds.

The list of high performance parts doesn’t stop at the engine. Braking is provided by big discs at all four corners with 4-piston calipers up front and 2-piston ones at the rear. There’s also a Bilstein suspension, a twin-disc clutch, five-speed manual transmission and a differential lock control module to ensure the rally-inspired road car can really tackle corners at impressive speeds.

Just 400 examples of the Impreza 22B STI were ever built and this example is number 196. It has 25,655 miles (41,287 km) on the odometer and an asking price of £99,995, the equivalent of over $128,000 in the U.S. For the money, its new owner will also be able to enjoy a pristine exterior and interior alongside all the performance goodies. Still, almost $130k does sound a bit steep, doesn’t it?
