Seeing a comfortable family hauler like the Volvo V50 getting ready to go head to head in a drag race with a McLaren 600LT can provoke giggles.
However, as you may have already figured out on your own, this isn’t your typical Swedish estate, but one that has undergone some serious revisions. Modified to the teeth, the V50 is said to have an impressive 550 horsepower available on tap though, aside from those large wheels and a few stickers, you wouldn’t be able to tell.

A wolf in sheep’s clothing, the wagon enjoys 100+ hp more than the latest Audi RS4 Avant, which is both bigger and heavier, and can probably beat it in a straight-line acceleration. But the true question is, does it have what it takes to make the McLaren uncomfortable? The British supercar enjoys 592 hp from a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V8, and does the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds, maxing out at 328 km/h (204 mph).
The 600LT is more powerful and lighter, so it has the physics working for it. So, in theory, it should have no problem smoking out the old five-door Volvo. Nonetheless, the driver still plays a decisive factor, so the perfect takeoff could be the only thing standing between winning and losing.
Now, we won’t divulge the outcome of the two runs, as that’s for you to find out by checking out the following video, but we will tell you that there wasn’t that big of a difference between the two.
