Tesla’s has been having great success in Europe, with the American EV-maker claiming the best-seller crown in the Netherlands with the Model 3, dethroning the VW Polo.
The company sold 5,768 Model 3 sedans last month, marking an almost four-fold jump from August, as per Dutch motor traders association, Bovag. Meanwhile, demand for the Model 3 also led to Tesla becoming the country’s most popular car brand in September, reports Autonews Europe.
The Tesla Model 3 retails from 43,390 euros ($47,308) in Europe and its range of 240 miles (386 km) currently gives it a massive edge over the competition. Still, we’re looking forward to seeing how these sales numbers will be influenced by VW commencing ID.3 deliveries (early next year) – the ID.3 will retail for less than 30,000 euros ($32,787) with a range of 205 miles (330 km).
Overall though, the VW brand still leads new-car registrations in the Netherlands for the year, with 36,449 units, compared to Tesla’s total sales of 13,991. Aside from the Model 3’s competitive driving range and price tag, its sales have also been spurred on by the roll back of certain government incentives, set to take place next year – this in turn encouraging buyers to order their cars sooner rather than later.

The Tesla Model 3 is also Norway’s best-selling vehicle, even though registrations declined in Q3 compared to earlier this year. By selling 3,300 Model 3s in the Scandinavian country between July and September, Tesla edged out VW and the Golf by about 900 units, as per the Norwegian Road Federation.
