Mitsubishi Motors is about to give the Mirage and Attrage budget city cars the first major update since their launch in 2012 and 2013, respectively. They received a facelift in late 2015 too, but the changes were rather minor.

Also sold as the Space Star in Europe and some Asian markets, the Mitsubishi Mirage will gain the brand’s Dynamic Shield front end design, as suggested by this teaser image. The Attrage (sold as the Mirage G4 in the United States) will get the same face too featuring new headlights, a new grille and bumper, with all three elements being united by two C-shaped trim pieces.

A closer look at the Attrage in the photo reveals a similar rear end with some minor changes in the light clusters. The automaker does not offer many details but says both models “will feature sharp and dynamic exterior designs which embody the Mitsubishi-ness that identifies the company’s compact cars.”

We don’t know whether the Mirage and Attrage will gain powertrain updates. Currently, the budget cars feature a naturally aspirated 78 HP (79 PS) 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine mated to either a five-speed manual or a CVT. Given the entry-level nature of these models, we should expect them to carry on with the same powertrain and receive only minor interior and technology updates.

Both the 2020 Mirage and Attrage models will celebrate their global debut in Thailand on November 18. They are built at the Laem Chabang Plant, MMC’s local production site, and with 140,000 global sales in the fiscal year 2018, the Mirage and Attrage are highly significant models for Mitsubishi, especially in developing markets.
